A Bit About Us...

Hello, we are Brandy and Mike. We're a young, fun-loving couple who are looking to build our family through adoption. We have always dreamed of having a child and are very excited about the future of our family. Adoption is very special to us as Brandy's sister, Shelby, is a birthmother who lovingly made an adoption plan for her son when she was 15. We have a very open adoption with her son's family and would be thrilled to have the same relationship with you. We feel very strongly that you should be honoured and recognized for being such a strong person and considering an adoption plan for your child. We hope by reading about us you will come to know us and will consider us as parents for your child.

Our Story

We met in junior high, about grade 8, and we have been together ever since! We have basically grown up together and know each other extremely well. In 2008, we moved to Ottawa from out hometown of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. That same year, we were married at a beach resort in Cuba. We love travelling so that was a great decision for us!

We began trying to start our family in 2008 that resulted in three failed fertility treatments. Now three years later we have decided to form our family through adoption. When we talked about it, adoption just seems natural to us due to our past experience with Brandy's nephew's adoptive family and our strong desire to give a child a loving and caring family.

We also have to mention our two amazing and gorgeous dogs. Caliloka is a greyhound and Will is an Italian greyhound. They keep us laughing and entertained all the time! Caliloka is the sweet, loving one and Will is the hyper yet cuddly one. They will love having a child around to drop crumbs and play with them.

Brandy is an very passionate person who always tries to help and bring out the best in people. She's thoughtful, creative, outgoing, adventurous and a lot of fun to be around. She's a board member of the local greyhound supporters group and has volunteered many hours helping dog rescue charities. Brandy attended Nova Scotia Community College studying to be funeral director and works at a local funeral home in Ottawa. Brandy loves horseback riding, skating, scrapbooking and reading. I've had the opportunity to see Brandy with the children of our friends and can honestly say that she will be a great parent. She glows when she has a child in her arms and is able to nurture and care for them.

Mike (written by Brandy)

Where do you begin to describe your best friend, an amazing man and someone who means as much to me as Mike does??? Mike is simply wonderful, he's caring, loving, accepting, hard working and fun. He even gets up at 5am when our little dog needs to go out, just about every morning! He graduated from Acadia University in 2008 and has worked at a software company ever since. Mike enjoys playing computer and PlayStation 3 games, watching crime shows, biking, movies, walking with our dogs and spending time with me, hehe! Mike has 2 younger sisters, and your child will make them first time aunts, which they are very excited about! Mike will be a very caring, fun and loving father. He's been great about painting and working on a room for your baby, he's excited!

Our Families

Cathy and Dave are Brandy's parents. They are wonderful, hardworking people. They always make the trip to Ottawa to visit where we do lots of eating, shopping and spending time together. Shelby is Brandy's sister. She is a very determined, loving, caring and special person. She has given us so much insight into what a birth mom goes through and we will be forever grateful to her. She has made us constantly be mindful of what a birth mom feels and experiences along the way. In our opinion she has taught us things we think will make us great adoptive parents. Orion is Shelby's son and he is such a happy, energetic young boy. We both love playing with him and having fun!

Judi and Marty are Mike's parents. They are funny and very caring. They do lots of charity work for their local animal rescues. We enjoy camping, fires and cooking when we visit them. Jade and Justine are Mike's sisters. They are both very excited to be aunts! Jade is very artistic and creative. Justine is athletic and enjoys dancing and softball. Both families visit us in Ottawa a couple times a year.

Fun Facts About Us

Mike:

1)His favourite color is red.
2)His favourite television show is the Simpsons.
3)His favourite thing to do with Brandy is taking the dogs for walks together.
4)His favourite food is BBQ ribs.
5)Weird fact about Mike is that he can wiggle his ears.

Brandy:

1)Her favourite color is pink.
2)Her favourite TV shows are Big Brother, Survivor, Hell's Kitchen and basically anything reality.
3)Her favourite thing to do with Mike is going to Ottawa Senators hockey games.
4)Her favourite food is homemade jam jam cookies the way her mom and nan make them.
5)Weird fact about Brandy is that she hates when different foods touch on her plate.

Our Interests as a Couple

Both of us very much enjoy going to Ottawa Senators hockey games and we try to go often! We love walking our dogs and taking them to parks. We always do small things together like going grocery shopping, reading, biking, long talks and going for ice cream. We love going on vacation whether it's back home to Nova Scotia, Cuba, Montreal, or Toronto, we love to travel.

Our Home and Finances

We live in a very community and family oriented subdivision in Kanata. There are many parks and playgrounds within walking distance, as well as a couple elementary schools. Our home is about 6 years old and is modern with a very open concept. We enjoy owning our home and continue to change and upgrade things as we like. Last year we fenced in the backyard, which our dogs love! Our home is comfortable, warm and tidy. We both have great jobs and love our work. We are fortunate to have great pay as well as a few bonuses each year as well as complete medical, dental and life benefits. When we bring a child home it's our plan for Brandy to be home for one year, then possibly go back part time.

Holidays

For holidays we like to go all out! Brandy LOVES decorating the house for each holiday, but Halloween and Christmas are our favourites. She is creative and comes up with great decorating ideas! All the neighbourhood kids love our creepy Halloween set-ups outside. We always set a budget of much to spend at Christmas, but we always see things the other would love and are bad for going over our agreed amount, haha! We enjoy spending holidays at home, together and can't wait to share those special times with your child!

Travels

We are big into travelling, whether it be a two week trip to Nova Scotia, Cuba or a quick weekend away to Toronto or Montreal. We love seeing new sights and experiencing new things. These vacations will be even more special when we have a child to share this passion of ours with.

Conclusion

We could write so much more but we would soon run out of space! We hope this gave you a small glimpse into our lives and who we are.

We believe your child deserves all the love, support and encouragement we can give. We promise we will support your child throughout the years, we will always be there for them, guiding them and allowing them to make their own decisions.

We will always be honest and open with your child about their adoption story and their family history. We can only imagine the challenges you have gone through to make this adoption plan. We would be more than happy to share the joy of naming your child with you. We will welcome you as an extended part of our family. If you would rather have photos, emails or letters only we will respect your decision. We're open to making an arrangement that works for everyone involved, with your child's best interest at heart.

We plan on using Brandy's love of scrapbooking to create a beautiful life book for your child. Anything you wish to add to the book would be welcome.
